PSA 6 - 1940 Play Ball # 39 Tom Carey Boston Red Sox

Description: A PSA graded EX-MT 6 - 1940 Play Ball card of Tom Carey of the Boston Red Sox. 1940 Play Ball set features 240 different cards highlighting active players of the day as well as many retired baseball greats. The set includes many Hall of Fame players and even a card of the legendary Shoeless Joe Jackson of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox. Card numbers 121-180 can be found with two different ads at the bottom on card backs. The first advertises the Play Ball Baseball series, while the other advertises the SUPERMAN set that was yet to be released. Some collectors are willing to pay a small premium for the cards featuring the SUPERMAN ads on the back, but most of the major price guides do not mention different values. This example has no creasing, bold printing, nice focus, good centering and clean borders. The corners are consistent with those found on most EXMT+/NM examples. There is some modest toning on both sides (not uncommon with 1940 Play Ball cards). The toning on the front is lighter than it is on the back, although there is some darker toning near the edge of the top border. Aside from the toning, the back is clean with bold printing.
