Description: Original 1909 Print/Burning of the Midnight Oil/Moses Blumenthal/College Life The artist of the present work is Moses Lawrence Blumenthal (1879-1955)born in North Carolina, was an early 20th century prominent illustrator and long-time contributor to The Saturday Evening Post (well into the 1920s); also illustrated for Life, Metropolitan, The Ladies' World, Sunday Magazine, Ladies' Home Journal, Collier's. Book art for Ring Lardner, Harry Leon Wilson, Irwin Wallace. His work is highly collectible, and the series of illustrations he created about College life in America are considered some of his finest works - as here in "The Burning of the Midnight Oil". The 1909 version we offer measures 20 by 6.25 in. and is reduced in size from the original print of the same name which was first published in 1907 at nearly double the size. Print is without frame/glass. Print bears fine and bright coloration. There is some silverfish damage along the upper right margin of the print on the right side and a few closed tears. Rare thus.
