Product Description: This offering is for a new-old-stock (NOS) Shimano 105 (BR-1055) brake caliper set in a gray enamel finish. These are first generation dual-pivot calipers that were in current production for most of the 90's and incorporate Shimano's Super SLR (Shimano Linear Response) technology. For those that are interested, Shimano Linear Response (SLR) is the company's answer to designing and machining friction reducing mechanisms into their braking system (so their levers, cables/housing and calipers). I believe the "Super" part of this labeling is code for distinguishing the dual-pivot feature of these calipers from Shimano's predecessor single-pivot SLR model in the same 105 product line. The primary benefit of the dual-pivot design is the idea that each caliper arm gets its own pivot point. As a result, the "pivot point" is brought closer to each caliper arm and brake shoe, which increases the overall braking power. In other words, the same braking force applied when squeezing the levers will translate into more braking power with these dual-pivot calipers relative to their single-pivot predecessors. The caliper arms are made from a forged aluminum alloy, so they will be very strong/durable and designed to withstand high stress (competition-like) applications. They are considered short reach for road calipers (39 mm to 49 mm according to shop catalog specs...and this appears accurate based on our own measurements). Lastly, please note the recessed mounting hardware with the tell-tale allen nuts (and no acorn nut) and a scale weight of 390 grams. With respect to condition, none of these caliper sets came to us in retail boxes (just individually wrapped plastic bags). The small lot that we acquired are all new and unused, but most of them do show some light shopwear. Listing Update...We are updating the pictures to reflect the next set that will sell/ship. To this end, and as I inspect this particular caliper set, I don't see much in the way of shopwear. There are some light scuffs/scratches, but the overall cosmetic condition is still nice. Unfortunately, this service is more expensive, especially for smaller/lighter packages, relative to the First Class International service.
