Description: 1800s Ore Knob Copper Mine, Ashe County North Carolina ore specimen. Mixed metal ore with bright golden sulfur crystals in a sulfide base ore. Mixed metals in the rare earth line ore. Photos show random filings in muriatic and nitric combined 14, 18, 22 k gold, platinum and silver testing acids. Broken from a very large piece to reveal the interior of the iron-stained crust. Copper can be seen in a few spots. Light magnetic pull in most places with a very strong magnet, near the iron-stained crust area so there is iron in the mix, mainly on the crust but not on the crystal area or on one outside crust pointed end area, which I would assume that the crystal runs to the that point. On the edge where the sulfur crystal starts you can see it does have transparency shown in the backlite photos. You can see the results of the test in the various acids, one photo shows the acid color change in the platinum acid from clear to yellow. Beautiful sparking metal ore with gold and other precious metals in the sulfide-based ore with some light iron pyrite, note that there are some silver color filings remaining in all tests, gold color in all as well. Highly mineralized deep earth mined ore specimen from a historic early US mine located in the mountains, incorporated mid 1800s. History of the 1800s Measurements from the longest points of the shape ore Knob Copper Mine can be found online, recommended for interested buyers in this old mine specimens. 5 inches x 4-1/8 inches x 3 inches. About 2 pounds 10 ounces in weight. Close to 3lbs+.
