Description: Ex Libris Vitae, Treat's Book Shop, Atlanta, GA, by James Larwood 1932 Limited Edition Signature Article Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Personal reflections on the last days and the passing of a great Atlanta, Georgia, book shop and its owner Charles W. Treat. Charles W. Treat was a widely-admired book dealer and bibliophile. A trained engineer, he developed a love for books. After amassing a forcible collection, he opened a book store in Chattanooga, TN; later moved to Indianapolis, IN; and finally in Atlanta in 1919…Treat’s Book Shop, on North Forsyth Street. ~~~ Larwood (1903-1958) was born on December 31, 1903 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology at Oglethorpe before receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in New York in 1926. After graduation, he worked on the staff of several newspapers in New York, Florida, and Georgia, including the Atlanta Georgian. After his service in WWII, he returned to Atlanta and became an avid collector of items related to Georgia history. In 1956 part of his personal library, considered to be one of the finest collections of Georgiana in existence, was exhibited at the Atlanta Public Library for thirteen months. James Larwood died in Atlanta, Georgia on October 25, 1958.NOTE: The last page has an attractive ink transfer from a image from an unrelated article. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.History-On-PaperItem #3123-G1409-CQJ
