After the war, Wait was granted large amounts of land along the Connecticut River in return for his military service and then became one of eight captains under Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys of 1771, taking part in the 1775 capture of Fort Ticonderoga. Wait was commissioned a Lt. Col.and ordered to frontier duty on Lake Champlain. In 1776, Wait was part of an advance Army Guard for Benedict Arnold's fleet. On Sept.12, 1776, on Ranger's Island, off Isle La Motte, he was struck in the head by a wood splinter from a gun carriage and mortally wounded, some of his men carried him southward along the old military road, which passed through Clarendon. Wait died and was buried near Fort Hill, supposedly the first Revolutionary War soldier to be buried in Vermont. John Spargo (1876 - 1966) was an English stonemason turned political organizer and writer who was invited to America to speak about socialism. He ended up staying and years later with his failing health in mind, he moved up to Bennington where his health recovered substantially and by 1920 he began turning away from socialism and towards the likes of Calvin Coolidge. Spargo also became the director of the Vermont Historical Museum in Bennington where he ended up writing and publishing many items large and small on many aspects of the state’s history. This is one of many Bennington/Spargo pamphlets posted at this time - should you purchase more than one in a similar time frame, shipping will stay the same, just wait for a personalized invoice. ******We ship swiftly and with safety in mind.Thank you.❧
